During the era of Ancient Greece, the boundaries of Greece also included parts of Turkey, Italy, and Sicily.

On the preceding map, the area around Ephesus, which is across the Aegean Sea from Athens, was in an area that is currently part of Turkey, That is the area in which the Battle of Troy took place. That is the area to which Odysseus sailed in the Iliad.
